Bite Your Tongue

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Ecclesiastes 5:2

Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.

O-bservation:

Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived and the King of Israel, discussed “Position, Position, Position” in this short verse. It’s not about who you THINK you are that is being discussed here, it’s more about who and where you are.

A-pplication:

I think you would probably agree that so much gets said that just shouldn’t be said. The wisest man who ever lived said, “Don’t be quick with your mouth to speak. In fact don’t spend a whole lot of time thinking in your heart what you’re going to say next.” Even Jesus said, “When you’re in trouble, don’t worry about what you’re going to say, because I’ll give you the words in that moment” (Matthew 10:19, paraphrase). But what’s amazing about this verse of wisdom is that Solomon said, “God is in heaven, you are on earth, so don’t say much.” The point is God has this massive understanding of what’s going to happen next. He has it set up and He’s in control. And yet, too often our words spoken in haste can circumvent the flow of God’s will. I don’t know how else to say this, but here I go: Learn to … “Bite Your Tongue.” Perhaps a shortage of our words will open up a greater flow of God’s grace today.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I want my words to reflect Your will today. That means You won’t be hearing much from me. Amen

  1. I now know better to use, instead of a clumsy speech, an eloquent silence because I can not be sure of finding the right words to express my deepest thoughts, unless I give the way to the Holy Spirit.
