Big School
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Hebrews 5:8
Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered.
O-bservation:
The author tells us that Jesus (the Son) actually learned OBEDIENCE through the things that He suffered. The line, “Even though He was a son,” means He still had to suffer.
A-pplication:
Whenever I think of suffering for a believer, or anyone for that matter, I think of “Big School.” This kind of education, if we are willing to yield to God’s will and way, could be likened to God’s “Graduate School” in Obedience. Other Old Testament biblical characters who have a graduate degree from the Big School of suffering would be people like Job, Moses, Naomi, Esther, and Hosea. Of course JESUS, in the New Testament, and right down the line of Apostles. Obviously Judas Iscariot failed the Big School graduate degree and suffered eternal separation from God. What’s sad is that so many jump out of Big School before the Lord is finished with them. Jesus never gives up on any of us. The challenge is always will we give up on us? My prayer today is that you’d stay in Big School. You won’t regret it.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I know by now that there’s only one way to learn obedience and advance in Your great Kingdom. “Big School.” That’s it. Even at my age this AM, help me stay in school. Amen
