Beware Of The LawPeople

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

John 5:10

And so the Jewish leaders said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath; the law forbids you to carry your mat.”

O-bservation:

This is the story of Jesus healing a man who was lame and couldn’t walk. He’d been there for 38 years, unable to walk. Jesus told him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” The man suddenly did exactly that! However, Jesus healed the man on the Sabbath. When the Jewish leaders saw the man carrying his mat, they did not rejoice that he was healed but rebuked him for breaking the law by carrying his mat on the Sabbath Day!

A-pplication:

I’m pretty sure all of us have been rebuked by the LawPeople at one time or another in our life. If I’m honest, I have to admit I’ve been the LawPeople on more than one occasion. You may be wondering what I’m talking about. I’m talking about people who go out of their way to rebuke others they barely or may not even know. They do this because they believe they have a heavenly calling to correct people they don’t think measure up to their interpretation of what God demands of us. Here was a man who had not walked for 38 years. We aren’t told that he was 38 years old, so he may have walked at another time in his life. But 38 years’ operating in ONE certain way is a lifetime. When Jesus healed him, He commanded him to get up and take his mat and walk. In other words, here’s a man who was obeying Jesus. We don’t know if he knew it was a sin to these Jewish leaders to carry one’s mat on the Sabbath, but we do know that he obeyed the King Of Kings on the Sabbath. Probably more important than keeping religious laws is obeying the King of Kings every day of the week. “Beware Of The LawPeople!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

This AM, more than anything I want to please You and honor You, and most of all, OBEY You! Amen
