Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
I am the Lord, who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God; therefore be holy, because I am holy.
In this chapter, the Lord gave Moses and Aaron a list of which animals were clean and unclean. Those that were clean were to be eaten and those that were unclean were not to be a part of the Israeli’s diet. These Kosher laws were their way of responding with a HOLY approach to God. That’s why God said, “Therefore Be Holy, Because I Am Holy.”
“BE Is An Action Word.” Yes, it is true that holiness is an inner act of God that is accomplished at salvation. Yet to be Holy is to continually move away from one’s past life of sin in order to be conformed to the image of Christ. The act of being is the act of moving closer and closer to Jesus every day of our lives. It’s not sitting while doing nothing. No! Rather it is action. St. Paul said, “I press on to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 3:14). In other words, there was action to his holy living. Yes, God makes us anew at the beginning. After that, it’s salvation by mutual consent. God’s grace does the initial work, our pressing toward Jesus is the BEING Holy part. “BE Is An Action Word!”
Because of Your Divine Grace in my life, I’ve been gifted with the desire to BE Holy. I know that my Action is required. It’s a Holy Alliance with You that I will never forsake, with Your help. Amen
