Be Holy? Really?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Leviticus 20:26

You are to be holy to me because I, the Lord, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own.

O-bservation:

One of the Lord’s commands in this book of priestly duties and laws is that His followers are to be holy. The reason He calls us to live a holy life is because He is holy, and He wants us to stand out in the crowd as one of His.

A-pplication:

This is a difficult directive from the Lord. One of the reasons is the definition of the word Holy, which means “to dedicate oneself wholeheartedly to God.” Another idea on the word Holy is, “to separate oneself from sin and unto God.” You and I were both born into sin with a sin nature. So, in effect, we are being asked by God to do what is not natural for us. He is asking us to be like Him and not sin when it is in our very nature to sin. Call it a dilemma or call it an impossible challenge or call it whatever you want, it’s not normal not to sin. Yet He willingly sacrificed His life to make it possible for us to dedicate ourselves wholeheartedly to Him. “He who knew no sin became sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God!” (2 Cor. 5:21). So it’s true, we can’t do it on our own, but with Jesus, we can! I know what you’re thinking, “Be Holy? Really?” And because of Jesus, I’d have to answer … YES REALLY!

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Help me today to be HOLY! Amen
