Act Like A Child, Be Treated Like A Child

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
1 Chronicles 9:1
All Israel was listed in the genealogies recorded in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. They were taken captive to Babylon because of their unfaithfulness.
O-bservation:
Both books of the Chronicles are thought to have been written by Ezra, but there is no conclusive evidence that he was the author. However, this passage of scripture was certainly written during the living years of both Ezra and Nehemiah. As the writer lists the genealogies of those now living back in Jerusalem, after their enslavement in Babylon, the writer says the reason they were taken captive into Babylon in the first place was because of their DISOBEDIENCE.
A-pplication:
One of the very first lessons I learned as a child was the character value known as obedience. I can’t tell you how many times I heard my mother say, “Honey, you had better OBEY me.” In my early elementary days, it was also carried out in my public-school education. Back then, corporal punishment still existed. And I remember being paddled by my principal and my sixth-grade teacher. It wasn’t just my godly parents who disciplined me when I disobeyed. It was also the public elementary school authorities. I learned NOT to disobey when I was a child. However, some of my friends got older but never grew up. They ended up in and out of jail. In this passage of scripture, it’s apparent that some nations never grow up. For me, disobedience as a child was always met with discipline. It was the discipline that helped me grow up. The message found in the scriptural selection this AM is simply, “Act Like A Child, Be Treated Like A Child.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Thank You this AM for parents and a school system that helped me grow up into manhood. They disciplined me with love to help me lose my childish ways. I’m so grateful they did. Amen
