A Righteous Legacy
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
2 Timothy 1:5
I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.
O-bservation:
Paul opened this second letter to Timothy by reminiscing about Timothy’s heritage. He talked about the great faith of his grandmother Lois, which had been received by her daughter Eunice (Timothy’s mother), and now Paul believed that this same faith lived in Timothy as well. Here are three generations of FAITH mentioned in one family. That’s what is called “A Righteous Legacy.”
A-pplication:
We don’t know much about Timothy’s grandmother except that Paul said she was a woman of Faith. History tells us that Timothy’s mother, Eunice, was Jewish/Christian and she was married to a Greek/Gentile. Even so, they had passed their vibrant faith in God on to their son Timothy, and when Paul came to Lystra, where Timothy lived, on his first missionary journey, Timothy must have been impacted in a great way. When Paul and Silas returned the second time, Timothy was somewhat of a stalwart of the church in Lystra. But he wasn’t new to Faith. He was raised in it and represented the third generation of righteous faith in his family. Today we hear the word “Legacy” a lot. The question is, what kind of legacy are you leaving. I hope, like me, it is your desire to leave behind “A Righteous Legacy.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I thank You this AM that You allowed me to be raised by grandparents and parents who were people of great Christian Faith. Help me to carry on this mission to build “A Righteous Legacy.” Amen
