A Call To Be Grateful

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Matthew 20:15

Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’

O-bservation:

This is the parable that Jesus gave concerning the man who hired one-day employees early in the AM and agreed on a price that he would pay them. Later, at 9 am, then noon, then 3 pm, and again at 5 pm, he hired more. When the day was finally over, he paid the people who came at the near end of the day as much as he paid the workers who came early in the AM. The all-day employees, however, were disgruntled that the pay wasn’t more equitable. The employer said, “Can’t I do what I want with my own money? Or was it the fact that you are envious that I’m so generous?”

A-pplication:

At the end of the day, the all-day employees were dabbling in an arena they had not created or had any authority in. It wasn’t their field, it wasn’t their business, and it wasn’t their money. But they chose to weigh in with their opinion anyway. This parable is really about “The Call To Be Grateful.” But these early hires were jealous that their employer had the right to be GENEROUS. This is the beginning of a week in my country that people everywhere are given the opportunity to be especially grateful. However, even with a pause in the action and a couple of days for a holiday break, many will find it unnecessary to be grateful and instead will find a reason to complain. I trust that will not be the case with you and me. Instead, we will agree to answer “The Call To Be Grateful.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I’m answering The Call To Be Grateful this AM by simply saying, “Thank You, Jesus!” Amen
