Lord, Give Me One More Chance

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Jonah 2:9

But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, “Salvation comes from the Lord.”

O-bservation:

Jonah, the prophet of the Lord, made this commitment from the belly of a whale. You may remember that the Lord had commanded that he go to Nineveh and preach judgement. But instead he hopped a boat for Tarshish. A great storm arose, and they were in fear of capsizing. Jonah said, “I’m your problem. Throw me overboard and you will be safe.” They did, and the sea calmed; however Jonah was swallowed by a whale. While in the belly of the whale he repented and pretty much cried and said, “Lord, Give Me One More Chance.”

A-pplication:

God heard Jonah’s prayer and directed the whale to throw Jonah up on dry ground a three day journey from Nineveh. Jonah committed to the Lord that if He would “Give Him One More Chance,” he would keep his promise to the Lord and do what the Lord had asked of him. How many times have you and I failed to obey the Lord? How many times have we prayed “Lord, Give Me One One Chance?” I can tell you I’ve prayed that line at least a hundred times in my life. One thing I’ve learned, and that is that we’re the kids and God is our dad. We’ll always be kids no matter how old we get, when it comes to our relationship with the Lord. So, whatever you’re afraid of today or whatever you may have done, why not right now just stop and pray, “Lord, Give Me One More Chance.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I want to do what You’ve asked of me today. If I’ve strayed from that path, then please give me one more chance today. I’m ready to step out and keep my promises to You! Amen
